Edmonton Expo 2012 FINISHED!

With the result being two VERY different days!

The first was kind of a bust. I got stuck between two people with large signs and displays who were just way more prepared than me, didn't have a sign with my name on it on the front of my table (the registration forms were filled out with only one person's info) and I got very little attention. Made maybe 10 bucks and resolved to start just GIVING away whatever material I could as opposed to selling it. I heard the first convention is a learning experience, but there was still a little bit of soul-crushing.

The second day however, turned out much better. All in all I made enough to cover my table expenses and about half of my printing costs! DESPITE having a poor display. I had to print up some examples of my art work and simply tape them to the front of my table, which drastically helped me to get attention as a separate entity from the bigger guy sharing my table. I also sold some prints for dirt cheap, as they were on regular printer paper instead of proper card stock and without plastic protectors. It was a rush job, but I made about 10 sales that way, so more people are going home with my name in their bag. That's at least a partial win.

And the fact that I made a lot more sketch sales the second day both confirmed the fact that the last day is always the best for artists, as well as gave me much hope for next year. If I could almost cover my expenses with a poor display, then I'm confident I could do much better with a proper display and more prints for sale. I have the talent to make money at a convention, I just need more material and better marketing.
